Spudnuts

Ingredients

  • ½ cup shortening
  • ⅓ cup mashed potatoes
  • ⅓ cup sugar
  • 2 eggs slightly beaten
  • 2 pkgs yeast dissolved in ½ cup warm water
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 3 cups warm milk
  • 6-7 cups flour

Directions

Dissolve the yeast in the ½ cup warm water. Add 3 cups warm milk, sugar, shortening, mashed potatoes, eggs, and flour.

Knead well, roll out and cut donuts as soon as mixed. Let rise 1 ½ hours.

Best if fried in hot oil, drain 5 minutes on paper towel, dip in glaze while still hot.

Glaze:

1 lb powdered sugar with a little hot water and butter. Add orange juice for flavor.
