Notes

You can use a standard square 8 inch pan in place of the cast-iron, which doesn't need to be preheated. The edges of the brownies won't be quite the same though.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 tsp nutmeg
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • ½ cup chopped peacans
  • ½ cup plus 1 tbsp butter, melted
  • ½ cup sugar
  • ½ tsp cloves
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • 2 cups apples, peeled and chopped
  • 2 eggs, lightly beaten
  • 2 tsp cinnamon

Directions

Preheat oven to 350. Place an 8 or 9 inch cast-iron skillet in oven to preheat. Whisk together flour, sugar, brown sugar, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves in a bowl; set aside. Beat together eggs, vanilla, and ½ cup melted butter in a mixing bowl. Toss apples and pecans in flour mixture, then stir into egg mixture until combined. Add remaining 1 tbsp butter to preheated skillet, swirling to coat pan. Pour batter into hot pan and place in oven. bake until sides are dry and toothpick inserted into center of brownie comes out clean, about 40 min. Cool in skillet 20 min before removing and slicing.
