Molasses Crackles


  • 1 ½ cup melted butter
  • 1 tsp nutmeg
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ molasses
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 3 tsp cinnamon
  • 4 cups flour
  • 4 tsp baking soda


Melt butter in a large microwave safe bowl. Add sugar and molasses and stir. Let it cool slightly. then add the beaten eggs, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg, stirring after each addition. Add flour in 1 cup increments, stirring after each one. The dough will be quite stiff. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees, rack in the middle position.

Roll the chilled dough into walnut-sized balls and roll in sugar. Place them on a greased cookie sheet. Press them down just a little so they won't roll off when you carry them to the over. Bake for 10-12 minutes.
